The design of a kitchen island is completely up to the homeowner. Some of the islands come in a natural wood color. This allows the homeowner to keep the island counter in the natural wood finish or the counter can be stained. Before designing the countertop, the homeowner should decide what look he or she is trying to achieve in the kitchen. A new trendy is to install a island top that is a bright color that does not necessarily match the already present color scheme in the kitchen. This makes the kitchen seem more artsy and funky and can make the island really stand out in the room. A homeowner may also decide that he or she wants a traditional kitchen island countertop that matches the rest of the color scheme. He or she will then need to design the kitchen island counter with the same materials and staining as the rest of the cabinetry and countertops in the kitchen.
In order to make a kitchen island work, you need a fairly large kitchen space to ensure enough space around the island to move freely. If your space is large enough to accommodate an island, then a kitchen island will provide more counter space and more storage space. In an extremely large kitchen you can create two separate work triangles, or reduce the size of the main work triangle, increasing the efficiency of your design. To help you with the design element of incorporating an island an experienced designers input will be invaluable. The arrangement of the appliances and service supplies may change when you add an island into your design.
There are certainly many pros to having a kitchen island. The first pro we will look at is that of extra counter space. Having resided in homes where counter space was at a minimum, the kitchen island was a life saver when cooking for larger gatherings. The second pro would be extra storage space. Who does not need extra storage space in a kitchen? One kitchen owned was so small the laundry room next to the kitchen wound up being turned into a pantry as there was next to no storage in the kitchen.
Kitchen islands have become one of the most popular kitchen features in America. These handy workspaces can include numerous extras to enhance your kitchens beauty and functionality. Most islands have sinks, drawers, eating areas, and additional counter space. As you know, theres never enough work space in a kitchen no matter how much you have, so an island can offer you the room to expand. One of the biggest pluses about kitchen islands is that most of them contain extra storage space for all of the paraphernalia that is so necessary in a kitchen today. A kitchen island cabinet can be just the solution to the problem of "Where am I going to put that?"
